FOOTPRINTS CONDUCTIVE EDUCATION CENTRE supports children across the East Midlands who live with a range of disabilities, and communication and mobility difficulties, and helps them to develop skills to achieve their full potential. Footprints work is inspired by the principles and practices of Conductive Education which focuses on potential, and is a holistic education approach developed to help people who live with disabilities consciously learn the life skills that come more naturally to others. It encourages the development of physical, communication, social, sensory, self-help and thinking skills, such as sitting, standing, touching, listening, looking, eating and playing. Footprints support children from six months to 11 years old in structured, group sessions once a week, working closely with parents and carers in a safe, positive and supportive environment. FOOTPRINTS services include weekly sessions for preschool children, weekly communication and speech sessions for older children living with Down Syndrome, after school Gym Club for school aged children and Hydrotherapy sessions for preschool children. They promote and use various methods of communication including eye gazing technology and Makaton. The BWCF have been very pleased to provide a multi-year grant towards the costs of their services.
