African Adventures Foundation (AAF) is the charity arm of the volunteer tour organization African Adventures Limited and was set up in 2013 to provide support to over 25 schools in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar (part of Tanzania). These schools provide education, health and food security, and social support to over 25,000 young people whose access to these basic services would otherwise be extremely limited. AAF helps by focusing on four core areas of support: food security, infrastructure, key equipment, and WASH, thus facilitating opportunity in education, and the best possible route out of poverty. AAF funds food security programmes at their Kenya partner schools providing over 30,000 meals each month; for many children the only meal they will receive each day. The charity funds the construction and maintenance of important school facilities, including new classrooms, kitchens, toilets, and utility installations such as piped water and electricity. With guidance from their in-country staff, AAF funds specific campaigns for certain equipment needs identified by the schools, to help them operate safely and effectively, including everything from textbooks and exercise books, to cooking stoves and water tanks. In addition, the charity funds projects to improve hygiene standards including the provision of improved toilet facilities and the education of children about hygiene and menstrual health management. As the charity arm of African Adventures Limited, AAF has no overheads or staff costs and all donations go directly towards AAF's charitable activities described above. The BWCF was very pleased to award a multi-year grant in 2024 to assist with their mission.
