Kangaroos is based in mid-Sussex and provides the opportunity for children and young adults with learning disabilities to have fun, interact with their peers, learn new skills and enjoy new experiences independently of their families.
The Charity has been running since 1994 and offers Saturday, holiday, youth and sports clubs for children and young people together with a recreational program for young adults in the local community.
Many of the members have behavioral, physical or sensory difficulties with an increasing number with Autism, complex medical needs, and Epilepsy. They are supported in all activities by experienced, trained staff and young volunteers to increase their independence, self-confidence, social competence and inclusion within the community.
Over 32 hours of social, educational and recreational activities are provided every week in the evenings, weekends and school holidays for over 150 members with learning disabilities. The BWCF were pleased to continue to support Kangaroos with a second 3 year grant towards their PALS project (Play Activities Laughter and Support) which provides Saturday and Holiday Clubs for children 6-12 years old who need a high level of support.
PALS runs throughout the year and offers a wide range of activities where the children have the benefit of a wide selection of toys and equipment to suit their varied needs. During the holidays, a variety of trips are organised appropriate to the children’s needs, ages and abilities.
