The Wingate Centre is the home of The Wingate Special Children's Trust, a small independent charity, based in Wrenbury, Cheshire that was established in 1988. It offers educational short breaks and holidays for children and young adults with all levels of physical and learning disabilities. The Centre has a fully fitted gymnasium, led by gym staff specifically trained to work with people with disabilities. There is also a large activities hall with facilities for listening to music and a screen for watching DVD's and it is ideal for games and crafts while the state-of-the-art sensory room includes bubble tubes, star carpet, projectors and a whole host of other equipment. All this is set in a safe and secure site with two outdoor play areas. However, staying at The Wingate Centre is not just about the children having a holiday (although for many with profound, complex and life limiting conditions it may be the only holiday experience they ever have) but it also offers these children the opportunity to socialise and build relationships with others, giving them the chance to practice essential life skills. The BWCF is donating £21,000 over a three year period to The Wingate Centre helping it maintain and continue its children's activities.
