Holly Lodge Centre

Founded in 1994, Holly Lodge Centre is based on the site of an 18th century farm in the heart of Richmond Park. The centre is a small unique charity that provides outdoor and heritage workshops for schoolchildren from across London and surrounding boroughs. The Charity specialises in providing bespoke adapted sessions for children and adults with disabilities and/or life limiting conditions.

Each year they have over 8,000 visitors, of which about 6,400 are children. This includes over 700 children with disabilities. Over 20 specialist schools visit the centre each year, using the specially adapted nature trail and classrooms. The team facilitate many different types of sessions depending on the needs of visitors, These include outdoor learning sessions about invertebrates, birds and pond dipping as well as Victorian heritage workshops using the atmospheric Victorian rooms. The facilities include a Victorian School room, kitchen garden, Victorian pharmacy, nature trail, accessible outdoor stage, and picnic lawn.

The charity has about 90 volunteers and a staff of 3 (one full time and 2 part-time) and provides about 300 workshops every year. Of these workshops over 130 are for children and adults with disabilities, the remainder being for children attending mainstream schools from 11 different boroughs. All the workshops provide interactive opportunities to meet the requirements of many parts of the primary school National Curriculum including science, geography and history. When funds allow, HLC provides free sessions, and transport if necessary, for schools where the pupil premium ratio is higher than the national average.

The BWCF has been pleased to support Holly Lodge Centre since 2012, most recently with a 3-year grant towards their services for children with special needs and for disadvantaged children.
